Engaging Our Community
Our conviction to be changed by Jesus is a lived conviction: embodied in our words and actions in the world. This page is intended to make space to tell one of the many stories of good work that Gallery people are involved in as they engage our community out of the abundance of their transformed lives.
Paul NyHuis // Dakota County Jail
Paul is a 77 year old retired physics teacher who holds a bi-vocational ministry license with our denomination. His call to serve the community has led him to ongoing work within the Dakota County Jail. He leads a group class there every Friday and has become a pastor and mentor to many inmantes. His relationship with them isn't limited to the boundaries of the jail. He often continues to pastor and mentor even after inmates are released or transferred to another prison.
We like to claim that Paul is on "staff" at The Gallery. The truth is that he remains with us on a purely volunteer basis. He does so because he has a servants heart for those who are lost and in despair. He consistently enters into their space and meets them with friendship, kindness, a listening ear, and a steady voice.
